Our Vision for Bringing Land into the Commons

An important part of our work is to explore how to bring land into the commons as we help regenerate the territory in Barichara, Colombia. My partner Penny Heiple and I have been working with a local team throughout the last year to design a non-profit organization called Tierra Sagrada whose mission is to bring private land into the commons in ways that support territorial regeneration.

Watch this webinar that I gave last month in the Regenerative Finance Lab of the Design School for Regenerating Earth to see how we are structuring this organization and why it focuses so much on the creation of healthy reciprocity relationships among multi-stakeholder groups in the local community.

We know that unchecked land speculation is causing significant harm in our territory. It is a pattern that exists in many places around the world. A key insight for us is that we will not be able to come into harmony with natural regenerative patterns -- like restoration of watersheds and flourishing biodiversity in local ecosystems -- if we keep living out unhealthy patterns of relationship with the land itself.
